Tourist Visa

The Super Visa was explicitly created for grandparents and parents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents who want to spend a lot of time with their relatives. They can remain in Canada for up to two years on a Super Visa without the requirement for any additional extensions.

Grandparents and parents are permitted to remain in Canada for an extended duration. Super Visas have a maximum 10-year validity period.

What is the Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents?

Grandparents and parents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who qualify may stay with their relatives in Canada for up to two years without having to reapply for their status. In addition, this visa allows them to enter Canada several times for up to ten years.

Similar to the Parents and Grandparents Program, the Super Visa includes year-round availability and minimal income restrictions.

For parents and grandparents who reside in nations where a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is necessary to enter Canada, the Super Visa is the best option. They won't have to worry about or deal with the trouble of routinely reapplying for a TRV once they have the super visa, which will allow them to travel freely between Canada and their home country.

The same application procedure may be used by anyone who wishes to apply but does not need a TRV in order to enter Canada. However, instead of receiving a visa at the time of entrance, they will receive a formal letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) authorizing their stay for up to two years.

What are the Super Visa Eligibility Requirements for the Sponsor?

The kid or grandchild who is inviting their parents or grandparents must demonstrate that their family earns at least the minimum needed income in order to be eligible for a Super Visa. For example, one or more of the following documents might be used as proof:

  • A T4/T1 for the most current tax year, or a Notice of Assessment (NOA);
  • Stubs for employment insurance;
  • A letter of employment outlining the pay and hire date;
  • Pay stubs; or
  • Bank records.
