Owner Operator Work Permit

Canadian Business Investors Immigration

The owner/operator program is suitable for senior executives and/or business owners who wish to conduct business in Canada and may eventually obtain permanent residency.

The advantage of this plan is that your family can accompany you to work and study. In addition, children in elementary and middle schools can go to public schools for free.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria

  • We recommend a minimum investment of 225,000 Canadian dollars and net assets close to 500,000 Canadian dollars;
  • The investment amount should be in line with the type and scale of the business;
  • Minimum 51% ownership of a new or existing business;
  • Hire at least 1 Canadian in the new business (usually expect to hire more Canadians);
  • Applicants should have the industry experience and knowledge to be admitted;
  • The applicant's professional/business profile is very important.

Advantages

  • IELTS/TEF is not mandatory (but you should be able to communicate when you arrive at the Canadian border);
  • You can choose the city/region where you invest/live in;
  • There is no competition among other applicants;
  • There is no third-party verification of assets in the home country;
  • There is no education requirement (if you are not interested in applying for permanent residency).

Disadvantages

  • Not an automatic way for Permanent Residency nomination;
  • You must be able to achieve a minimum IELTS 6.0 (in all 4 categories) to be selected as a PR through Express Entry after working in Canada for at least 1 year. If the spouse also has a job, there are other possible options;
  • If the applicant chooses to convert to PR through Express Entry after at least 1 year of work experience, it should be noted that all the non-mandatory points mentioned in the advantages will become mandatory.
