 Work Permits

The International Experience Canada (IEC) program is a program targeting young people from over 30 countries across the globe who may wish to travel and work In Canada. The program includes the 3 categories of people: 

Working Holiday

Individuals taking part in this program enjoy eligibility for an open work permit that can run for between one and two years. The period of the program validity usually depends on the participants' country of origin. Under the open working permits, participants are free to work in any place within Canada and can choose any employer.  

Young Professionals

Under this category, applicants find Canadian professional work experience using a work permit that is issued for a specific employer. In addition, applicants under this category must prove a job offer from a Canadian employer.  

International Co-op

The main targets for this program are students undertaking a post-secondary education within their home country but who wish to undertake part of their internship period in a Canadian Company. In this case, the applicants must first obtain job offers for work placement or internship in Canada as part of the requirement to complete their studies.

How does the IEC work?

The program begins with an eligible applicant creating an IEC profile online. Once this is done, the applicants go ahead to choose the IEC pool they wish to be part of. This is followed by a period of waiting until the applicant receives an invitation to apply, which is given through the applicant account. Issuance of the invitation is random and is done in several rounds. It is important to note that not all participants receive the invitation at the end.   During the IEC season, any person can apply if they have the required documents. However, SIMURGH provides strategies and further assists participants that are accepted and have met the requirements for qualification and skills to:  
  • Must be a citizen of one of the countries participating.
  • Must be aged between 18 and 35;
  • Must have a minimum of CAN$2,500 to help cover the applicant's expenses in Canada;
  • Must be in passion of a valid passport for the duration of their stay in Canada;
  • Must prove possession of a job offer or internship offer (for the Young Professionals & International Co-op categories only)
  • Enjoy Permanent Residency in Canada once their work permit is expired;
  • Lengthen their period of stay in the country as a visitor, student, or worker;
  • Get certification in their fields or professions.
